About
In 2007 I was working with my husband in our 6-year old asset liquidation business, crunching numbers and managing payroll and employee paperwork. I was happy to be self-employed but wanted more meaning in my work.
An ALACE birth doula training ad knocked me upside the head one day in January, and I jumped in feet first and heart next, convinced that it was what I was destined to do. I hired a CPA to take over my duties and started attending births. And then reality set in.
The planner/organizer/researcher in me didn’t really do any due diligence prior to starting my birth business. Emotionally, it was much more than I bargained for. The reality of birth in our society sank in, and I questioned my ability to make a difference. I learned how much of a heart-centered business birth really is, and ended up doing more inner exploration and work on myself than I’ve ever done before.
I also began looking for my tribe, business-wise. There really wasn’t much out there in my community at the time so I created a birth network in an attempt to create my own community. In building my practice, I developed my own systems, hired coaches and learned more about building a service business on my own.
Eventually I became a life coach and a childbirth educator. My mission since the beginning was to help as many women as possible feel informed and empowered in their pregnancy, birth and as they began their parenting journey.
I started as a doula, built awareness in my community through the birth network and other volunteer endeavors, and then began to teach childbirth classes. However, it wasn’t enough.
I’ve had the Savvy Doula Business Blog turned Inspired Birth Pro Blog since 2008, and I’ve enjoyed inspiring other birth professionals. In the end, the coach in me wanted to play a bigger game. This is how I can reach the most birthing women, by providing support to the loving professionals who support them.
What Am I Here For?
My name is Darlene MacAuley and I’m here to help childbirth professionals start and grow their businesses.
I’ve taken my previous and continuing business education, my experience with creating businesses, my background of having my own birth business, my knack for seeing and making the connection between people and resources, and my mission of supporting women in birth and rolling it all into a one-stop resource for childbirth professionals to help them start and grow their practices.
My brilliance lies in my ability to tap into the divine feminine and understand deeply where birth professionals are coming from in the deep work they do, while balancing the often masculine energy of building a business. I don’t offer an out-of-the-box system. Instead, I help birth professionals approach their business from the inside out, focusing on the sacred in their lives first, and helping them reflect and discover where their birth business fits in.
