Birth professionals know that the optimal position for babies to be in at birth is Occiput Anterior (OA), or better yet, Left Occiput Anterior (LOA). Often times, however, babies get comfortable in the Occiput Posterior position, which typically causes more pain in a woman’s back during labor.

If you don’t already know about Spinning Babies, visit this website today and offer it as a resource to your clients. Gail Tully has created a process that women can follow to help encourage their babies to turn and hopefully remain in an LOA position. The principles she created are based on the book “Optimal Foetal Positioning” by Jean Sutton and Paula Scott.

According to Gail, by using the three principles of Balance, Gravity and Movement, babies will more likely move into an optimal position for an easier labor and birth. Techniques are offered to help babies in a variety of positions, and holistic methods such as homeopathy, herbs, chiropractic and cranial sacral therapies are suggested for babies in breech or transverse positions.

Spinning Babies has a lot of great information that moms can use prenatally during the last trimester, including a simple and fun way to determine their baby’s current position called Belly Mapping. In addition, there are many suggestions that birth professionals can use to help clients during labor.
