Today while my son was hanging out with me as I worked, he picked up a check that I received from a student of mine and we had this little exchange:

Son: “Mom, is this check really for $xxx.00?”

Me, glancing up from my laptop: “Yes it is. I get paid to teach childbirth classes.”

Son: “But do you like doing it?”

Balancing your home life while building your birth business takes practice and experimentation. Many birth professionals are also mothers of young children, and much of the work we do managing our businesses is at home while we’re also mothering and running the household. As business owners, how do we make time for it all?

So what’s the number one rule? Your potential customers are really not that interested in what you do and how you do it. What they really want to know is, what’s in it for them?

Give a quick call or send an email to someone you’re really interested in meeting and invite him or her out to coffee or lunch. Tell her a little about yourself, that you came across her website or heard about her from a colleague or friend, and that you’d like to meet with her to learn more about her services and tell her about yours.
