The Inner Work of Building Your Birth Business – The Spiritual Aspect – Part 2

Jan 6th, 2010 | By | Category: Life Balance, Starting Your Biz, Values-Based Business

There are two aspects of Inner Work when building a business. Today we will explore the Spiritual Aspect of Business.

The Spiritual Aspect of Business

Before you let the word “Spiritual” scare you, my use of the the word Spirit refers to the essence and vital life force in each and every one of us. When we connect to the essence of who we are, we feel awakened, alive, and we move through life with purpose.

When you focus on the spiritual aspect of yourself in relation to your business, here are questions you can explore:

  • What is this passion I want to share with the world, and why do I want to share it?
  • What matters most to me in my personal life, and how must I create my business to be in alignment with that?
  • What principles guide me through life? How do I integrate them into my business to uphold my integrity when deciding on services to utilize, practices to adopt, and vendors and clients I work with?

One way to help you gain clarity is to do some Values Identification exercises. There are many available to you online.

As you learn about and integrate the answers to these questions into your business, these values and principles will also guide you in other areas of your life.

In Part 3 of this series, we’ll take a look at the Emotional Aspect – the second part of the Inner Work in building your business.

  1. Thank you for this series. When I first came to it, I thought that I knew why I was a doula. Why would I do something without a reason, right? :-) While I knew my surface reasons, I realized that my initial interest came from simply being involved with birth. That’s a self-centered and vague reason to stay up all night with a woman I barely know. Lol. Thank you for “making” me look into myself.

  2. You’re welcome! I think you may find others who feel the same way, Heather. :) Being witness to birth is awe-inspiring and intoxicating! As we get more involved and gain more experience, our reasons for attending births evolves too.
