Hi! I’m Darlene MacAuley, the creator of Inspired Birth Pro
In 2007 I was working with my husband in our 6-year old asset liquidation business, crunching numbers and managing payroll and employee paperwork. I was happy to be self-employed but wanted more meaning in my work.
An ALACE birth doula training ad knocked me upside the head and I jumped in feet first and heart next, convinced that it was what I was destined to do. I began looking for my tribe, birth and business-wise. There were some doulas in my city but there really wasn’t much in the way of business support, so I created a birth network in an attempt to create my own community. In building my doula practice, I certified with Birth Arts International, developed my own business systems, hired coaches and learned more about growing a service business on my own. Eventually, I became a certified business coach with International Coach Academy and a Hypnobabies childbirth hypnosis instructor. I’ll also mention I have a business degree, but I really learned about business once I had one of my own.
Since the beginning I wanted to help as many women as possible feel informed and empowered in their pregnancy, birth and as they began their parenting journey. As it turned out, starting this blog in 2008 and coaching doulas to start their businesses helps me achieve this goal.
I am no longer teaching childbirth classes or working as a doula, but there is a special place in my heart for birth pros and families who use their services. I keep up with what’s going on in the birth world, and I continue to offer coaching services to birth doulas.
I’m here to help you start your doula business.
As a business coach, I’ve taken my education and business experience, my knack for making connections between people and resources, and my mission of supporting women in birth and rolling it all into a one-stop resource for birth doulas to start and grow their own practices.
I don’t offer an out-of-the-box system. Instead, I work with new doulas who are serious about starting their business on the right foot, help guide them to resources so they can become a bonafide business, and provide resources so they can create business and customer systems to make their work easy and efficient. I also help clients put together a simple marketing plan and set and implement a plan of action to help them start getting clients in the door.
|I purchased the Savvy Doula Startup Kit + Prenatal Meeting Planner and I am so happy with it! It is so much more than I was expecting! I was hesitant to purchase at first, thinking I could save money by creating my own forms, but as a brand new doula I would have never been able to come up with so many great forms and resources on my own. I was able to save so much time by purchasing the kit. It is obvious that years of experience and planning have gone into the startup kit and prenatal meeting planner. This purchase was well worth the investment!|
Are we a good match?
Could you start your business yourself without help? Of course you can. I admit that I’m a technician. I DIY the heck out of things and I learned how to take care of my own bookkeeping, client management, website creation, marketing, social media, and on and on. I pick up information and skills quickly and I am pretty good at a lot of different things. However, I’ve learned all of this over the past 15 years, and I’ve had business coaches, marketing coaches, CPAs, SBA business training classes, and hours upon hours of research and trial and error.
The times I’ve made the most progress were the times I had a coach who answered my questions, pushed me past my fears and held me accountable to get tasks done. One-on-one support has the greatest impact, and I serve new birth doulas as their #1 supporter of their success. Having me available to call on means that you will shorten the time it takes to get from ground zero to clients on your books. If you are ready to put in the hard work, I am ready to give you the help you need to get your doula business up and running.
